They are the basic level of infection control precautions which are to be used, as a minimum, in the care of all patients.
Hand hygiene
Hand washing (40–60 sec): wet hands and apply soap; rub all surfaces; rinse hands and dry thoroughly with a single use towel; use towel to turn off faucet.
Before and after any direct patient contact and between patients.
Immediately after gloves are removed.
Before handling an invasive device.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Gloves
Wear when touching blood, body fluids and skin.
Change between tasks and procedures on the same patient after contact with potentially infectious material.
Remove after use, before touching non-contaminated items and surfaces, and before going to another patient.
Perform hand hygiene immediately after removal.
Facial protection (eyes, nose, and mouth)
Wear a surgical mask at all treatment time.
Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette
Anyone with respiratory symptoms should wear a surgical mask and practise respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette.
Cover their nose and mouth when coughing/sneezing with tissue or mask, dispose of used tissues and masks, and perform hand hygiene after contact with respiratory secretions.
Face mask will be provided if necessary.
Temperature check before treatment
Use of non-contact infrared thermometer to measure surface skin temperature.
CDC considers a person to have a fever when he or she has a measured temperature of 100.4° F (38° C) or greater, or feels warm to the touch, or gives a history of feeling feverish.
Client will be re-schedule or take special precautions during consultation for urgent cases.
Patient care equipment
Clean, disinfect, and reprocess reusable equipment appropriately before use with another patient.
Treatment applicator and scanner will be cleaned with sanitizer before going to another patient.
Skin disinfection before applying electo-therapy conduction pad.
Patient can use their personal electo-therapy conduction pad.
Linens
Single-use disposable pillow cover, face cover and plinth cover if necessary.
One clean towel will be supplied for each treatment session.
Environmental cleaning
Use adequate procedures for the routine cleaning and disinfection of environmental and other frequently touched surfaces.
Ensure safe waste management.
